She doesn’t need a gesture. That would be silly. She’s not that insecure. She knows he loves her. He says it all the time. And often without being asked. It just doesn’t occur to him to show affection in that manner. And certainly not on Valentine’s Day. He’s not a sheep befallen to commercial tricks. He’s not a sucker. It’s okay. Besides, they’ve been together for so very many years. The romance is bound to fade a little, right?

Then the doorbell rings. It’s a delivery man. With a Valentine gift. Oh, what a relief.
