Karmic Debt

There was a knock on the door.

“Who’s there?” George asked.

“We are your sins.” Said a voice. “We have come to be forgiven.”

George thought about it. He had done some bad things but had hoped it was all in the past. That time had let his debt go, so he wouldn’t have to pay.

“I can’t do that, I have no means.” He said.

“Yeah, that’s not how it works, George.” The voice said. A woman’s voice by the way. Deep and firm, like his mother’s. “If you don’t forgive us, we can’t let you go.”
